2nd Steering Committee Meeting of the project Mo.Na: “Monuments In Nature: A Creative Co-Existence” and International Workshop in Albania

The Institute of Cultural Monuments “Gani Strazimiri” of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Albania, in collaboration with the European Centre of Byzantine and Post-byzantine Monuments (EKBMM), organized on 5-7 November 2019 in Albania the 2nd Steering Committee meeting and international Workshop on “The changing interaction in the balance between the human factor, cultural heritage and environment in accordance to the climate change – the case of Butrint”, in the framework of the project Mo.Na: “Monuments In Nature: A Creative Co-Existence” (INTERREG V-Balkan-Mediterranean 2014-2020).

The 2nd Steering Committee meeting was organized on 5 November 2019, at the archaeological site of Butrint, an UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the participation of representatives from all project partner institutions from Albania, Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria.

The International Workshop took place on 6-7 November at Tirana, having as main purpose the contribute to the comprehension of sites where natural, cultural values and human factor interact with each other, as well as on management issues affecting them, under climate change threats.

A wide range of disciplines and experts from Albania, Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria participated to the international Workshop. National case studies were presented, providing insights into the general context of understanding and managing the cultural and natural heritage, their interaction under climate change threats and taking into account the human factor.

The presentations covered the disciplines of archaeology, preventive conservation, biodiversity, hydrogeology and others, revolving around five thematic units:

-Preventive conservation of cultural heritage in Butrint,

-Monuments in nature – Nature-Culture linkages,

-Climate change and Cultural Heritage,

-Human Factor in cultural and natural heritage,

-Challenges for maintenance of archaeological findings
